Amazon's Bestselling Coffee Makers
There are lots of responsibilities that come with working from home. One of those is promoting your business. While some people have no problem talking about their company, maybe you're one of those people who just aren't comfortable with it. Maybe you're just shy, or perhaps you feel you'll come across as pushy if you mention your business to a friend, a neighbor or someone you've just met.
But, the fact is, if we want our business to be successful (and who doesn't?) then promoting it is something we need to do. Like it or not.
Fortunately, promoting a home-based business isn't difficult at all. You really can do it without sounding pushy. In fact, customers may come knocking on your door without you saying anything at all! Here are a few suggestions for promoting your business without even trying:
Non-Reciprocal Links. This one takes a little time but is well worth the effort. If you have a website (another wonderful tool to promote your business!), check into non-reciprocal link directories, where you post a link to your site but do not need to return the favor by including a link to theirs. Obviously, the more directories you sign up for, the more traffic that will be directed to your site. As mentioned, adding your site to multiple non-reciprocal directories will take time. But it could pay off in a big way.
Email signature. By simply adding a link or two to our email signature, you provide an easy way for potential clients and customers to discover what you do and also be able to access more information about your company. You're not pushing anything on them, as they have the option on whether to click on the link.
Message boards. You spend time on them anyway, right? Why not mention your business? Or, at least keep an eye out for those who may be looking for a service or product you can provide. For instance, if you sell candles, watch for conversations about scents and fragrances that allow the perfect opportunity for you to bring up your business. And, as with emails, use that signature feature on your message board user profile.
Bumper Stickers, Buttons, and other Fun Stuff. You've seen the photo bags many moms carry that show off pictures of the kids. Many home-based business owners are following suit. Have your company name embroidered on a canvas tote. Purchase bumper stickers, vinyl clings or car magnets to promote your business as you travel. Pin a button to your purse or coat pocket. Drink from a coffee mug with your company name engraved on the side. You'll be surprised at how many people will notice and stop you in the grocery store or in the parking lot with inquiries about your company.
Business Cards. Handing out a business card is often much easier than initiating a conversation about your company. Leave business cards with your hair dresser, grocery store cashier, waitress, pet groomer, or anyone else you come into contact with. You never know just who might slip it in their pocket and give you a call - or at least check out your website or other link provided on the card.
As you can see, there are many ways to tell others about your business other than engaging in a spiel that seems pushy. If you aren't comfortable initiating conversation about your business, these simple things may work well in bringing those customers to you.
