Why did my ice maker dump water all over my floor?
I have a Maytag wide-by-side fridge with the ice maker/water dispenser. This morning I got up to water on the floor. When I opened the freezer about 5 gallons of ICE COLD water poured onto my feet. The water is definately coming from the ice maker because the water/icicles started at the base of the dispenser and went all the way to the bottom of the cabinet. If anyone has any ideas please help!
My GE Profile icemaker malfunctioned in exactly the same manner. Our water line regulator that turns the water off to the ice tray continued to deliver water even after the tray was full. If you have a manual over ride (looks like a little aluminum arm) right above the ice tray pull it up to stop the regulator from sending water into the ice tray. You can also pull out the entire fridge and turn the water off at the supply in the wall.
I had ice build up all over the walls of my freezer and it even froze over the drain in the bottom of the freezer in a huge, thick sheet. Since I have an extended warranty on mine, they simply replaced the entire ice making unit. So unfortunately, I cannot tell you how to repair it yourself.
