Amazon's Bestselling Coffee Makers
Two questions about using a coffee press - how long to steep coffee, and how to store the press?
I'm a recent recipient of a coffee press, aka 'french press' or 'press pot' or 'cafetière'. I've used it already a few times, and I like the results, but have two questions:
1) how long to steep the coffee? - I've read 2-3 minutes is typical, but what difference will the steeping time make in the taste?
2) what is the best way to store the press? - it seems like you wouldn't want to store the filter inside the press jar, because that will encourage the screens to bend causing gaps.
Thanks in advance for any tips . . .
First of all, make sure your coffee shop grinds the beans specifically for the press.
Two or three minutes might be okay for store-bought coffee already ground (but that's because it's ground more finely for drip coffee makers than for presses). If the beans are ground for your press, make it four minutes.
Store the press like you would any other appliance - clean, dry and without any beans inside of it.
