Has anyone used coffee grounds for fertilizer?
I started saving used coffee grounds and wanted to know how to use them. Most of my plants are in containers so I don't want to burn them. All of my veggies are container plants. Can someone tell me how much I should use?
Coffee grounds are not so much good as fertilizer, but they are good for a few other reasons. One - use them as a soil additive. They add porosity to the soil so that it can retain water and air better - both of which are necessary for plant growth. Two - use them as a top dressing around plants. When compacted, they act as a mulch and prohibit weed growth. Three - they add aciditity to the soil. If your soil has a relatively high pH, then you can drop it gradually by adding coffee grounds.
That's what I've done for years.
