Why do cats like being in small "houses?"?
For example, when my cat was little he used to hide in a big box. We cut out windows and a tiny door for him, and left it out, and he loved it as a kitten. He would climb out the windows and stand on the top and do all sorts of things inside of it. But usually he would sleep inside of it all curled up and cozy. But, when he got bigger and we replaced it so it would conform to him getting bigger, he hated it.
Why do they like being enclosed? My cats like boxes, inside of the coffee table, cabinets, drawers, and stuff like that.
Why?
That is a throwback from their ancestors. We have domesticated these animals, but keep in mind that they still show their undomesticated traits.
Cats are hunters, and in small spaces, they can hide from predators.
They also sleep during the day and hunt at night to avoid predators as well.
