super tight budget question?
Okay, I have to shop for food and have a balanced home cooked meals and lunches for 10 days. I cannot go over 40 dollars in my food budget. All I have left at home to add to the 10 day menu is a gallon of milk, 6 eggs, half a box of pancake mix, 2 lbs, hamburger, (I have no onions or potatoes right now) a box of rice roni, one box of al graton potatoes, can of clam chowder, half a jar peanut butter, 2 cans vegetables, a bag of sugar, half bottle of maple syrup, half a can of coffee, 2 cans tomato sauce, 1 can diced tomatoes, 2 boxes hamburger helper, 1 box chicken helper, and that is about it oh, 1 pkg kraft american singles. Now I need a good grocery list to balance it all out. Please help. I also need some sort of dessert like cookies and snacks too. Not worried too much about dinner durring weekdays as I work evenings, just lunch mostly but dinner on sat and sundays. and breakfast
Here's a couple of tips.
You can make cookie dough from the pancake mix and sugar (buy a little bag of chocolate chips or chopped nuts).
You can make a big meatloaf with the ground beef and tomato sauce. Buy some bread crumbs and you are set. Depending how many people you are feeding, this could last a few days.
I'm assuming next month's budget isn't going to be any easier. In the future, don't buy the packaged pancake mix. Make your own: flour, baking powder, eggs and milk. You can save a lot of money and it really isn't any extra work. Same thing with the hamburger helper. Buy noodles in bulk and make your own.
Many markets have a rack where they have day old bread and dented cans and stuff they are trying to sell. Browse the shelf and look for bargains.
