i don't know how to show that the relationship is linear. i wrote that as x increase C increases.
Also, i calculated the slope and it was 0.25. what does the 0.25 slope mean in the context of the given situation?
Fianlly, why should it cost $50 to serve zero cups of coffee?

You are on the right track. Your final answer will be a linear equation of the form y = mx + b.
A slope of 0.25 means that for, in this case, every 1 cup of coffee (x) that you sell the cost (C) for selling that day will go up $0.25
The only thing to do now is to place that slope in the equation, pick a known x and y (0, 50) or (5, 51.25) and solve for b. b turns out to be 50.
Then write the equation as y = 0.25x + 50 (this is your proof that it is a linear relationship)
Another way to prove it is to show the known values on an x,y graph and draw a line from point to point. It should be a straight line if the relationship is linear.
It cost the vendor $50 dollars to sell no cups of coffee because they will have costs such as rent, paying other workers, electricity...etc. even if they don't sell anything that day.
